How do I link my ChatGPT or Claude account?

There are two ways to share your data.

  1. Download your data from the privacy section of the relevant LLM app, then manually upload it to Garth once you’ve created an account.
  2. Use our Chrome extension helper to quickly pull the same data. Only available for ChatGPT users.

How do you calculate the environmental impact?

See the methodology page for a plain-English breakdown of how we estimate water, energy, and CO₂ from your chat history — including the assumptions and limitations we think you should know about.

What happens to your data?

Once uploaded, your file goes to secure storage, gets processed, and is deleted within minutes. Only you can see the original file and all conversations are deleted.

  1. Your data doesn’t stick around. It’s uploaded to private storage only you can read, and we delete it the moment processing is done. Usually within a few minutes.
  2. Scrubbed, classified, then wiped. We scrub every message for PII — emails, phone numbers, credit cards, SSNs, IP addresses, and street addresses are replaced before anything is written to disk. Then we run the scrubbed text through our classifiers to work out topics, work vs. personal, and a few other signals. The text is deleted automatically, typically within 24 hours.

Scrubbing isn’t magic. If your messages contain things you’d really rather nobody saw, skip the upload.

  3. Only the stats survive. Things like persona, activity patterns, and footprint numbers — derived from your chats, but never the chats themselves. The aggregates stick around; the conversations don’t.
  4. Classification uses Anthropic’s Claude. Scrubbed snippets are sent to Claude to label topics. We store the labels, not the snippets or the raw responses.
  5. Aggregated stats may be shared publicly — for example, average footprint benchmarks across garth users. Individual data is never sold.
  6. Account deletion. Accounts can be deleted in Settings. Your profile, uploads, messages, and stats will be removed within 7 days and confirmed by email.
